Start with the architecture
Santa Ana's historic neighborhoods, like Floral Park, French Park and Wilshire Square, are full of Spanish Revival, Craftsman and Tudor homes. Arches, plaster walls, fireplaces and divided-light windows are what buyers fall for. Staging should frame them, not cover them.
What we did in our Santa Ana project
This home had arched openings between rooms, an arched fireplace and black-framed windows. We chose a curved gray sofa that echoes the arches, a strong black coffee table to anchor the room, and a round dining table that reads beautifully through the arch into the kitchen. Natural textures like pampas grass, woven chairs and a patterned rug keep it warm.
Rules for character homes
- Keep sight lines through arches and doorways open.
- Place the main seating to face the fireplace.
- Mix eras: contemporary furniture next to original details reads fresh, not themed.
- Choose art that suits the walls. Fewer, larger pieces work best with plaster.
